See How Her Garden Grows ...

Debra spent much of Saturday and plans to spend much of Sunday harvesting lettuce in her plot in the San Jacinto Neighborhood Community Garden and sprucing up the gardens at home. She's even been threatening to climb a ladder to prune the hibiscus over the pool unless Bob gets busy....Bob has taken to hiding the ladder. Sometimes, you know, we have to take drastic measures just to protect Debra from herself.

Nevertheless, she's planning to meet with Clean Galveston tomorrow to schedule the house for an upcoming Backyard Garden Tour. Bob's gonna have his work cut out for him, I'm sure. And Deb specifically remarks what an excellent caregiver he's been.

Being outside in this beautiful weather has really brightened her spirits! Nothing like a little fresh air to cleanse the soul.

Stopped by the house this morning and the flowering plants and floral arrangements are truly spectacular...looks like a veritable flower shop at 1828 Avenue M!

Thanks again to everyone for your 'Well Wishes' and continued support for Deb's recovery which, by all outward appearances, is coming along well and swiftly.

With no real diet restrictions, she's even progressed from Campbell's chicken soup to Galveston's tasty local Mexican food. Looking forward to a lunch outing today with a sea view.

More later ...

I should send Dylan over! We spent Saturday afternoon planting "napdwagons an daisies." He was a huge help digging the holes and picking up the snails. (Only some of the dirt didn't make it back into the flower beds.)

The dinner with the boys was lot of fun. Most of the stories are not fit for public consumption. Clyde Alexander's rendition of Senfronia's advice of how he should vote on "Danburg's decriminalization of lactating mother's bill" was worth the price of admission. Lots of concern expressed for you until they were reminded you survived more years with them than most of us did. Let me know when you are ready for drop in company--

We're going to miss you at Table Talk tomorrow; at your rate of recovery, I'll bet you could have made it! Congratualtions. I wonder just how many copies of the NYT report on Patagonia you received.

As always Deb, you are amazing. I tried to leave a comment early on, but clearly I was technically challenged, as Kitty said.

It looks like you did more this past weekend than I did, and I didn't even have surgery.

With love and affection

hi dEBRA - I'm out in thewilds of Laos and trying to connect at varoius times with computers that don't like the currentlyh available wireless connections. A challenge...
Ann McNaughton has been keeping me posted on your progress - so delighted to hear that it seems impressive - just be careful not to overdo.
Laos is a fantastic ocuntry / I am back in Luang Prabang after being about 2-300 miles further north, accessible only by boat on the OU river; beautiful placfe, but electricity arrives for 2 hours in the evening and the school in the village (where family size averages 6-7 children) was built by volunteers from a Canadian HS last year, but organized by myson's company. Wonderful to see these kids with a real place; also incdredible mountains - alas, obscured part of the time by the burning. It is technically against the law to slash and burn but up country, there is no other way as the rice doesn't gorw well year after year in the same place. I could write packets, but consider the fact that US bombs, made in CT, are used in gardesn the way falmingos and gnomes are in gardesn in other parts of the world. These huge cluster bomb containers are labled "dispensers" which is unnerving.
My hotel is superb back in Luang Prabang, and after 2 nights of sleeping in my clothes a hot shower feels like a whole new world opening up before me!
Have agood week and enjoy your garden.
Best wishes

Kitty, you have created such a great blog to keep us all updated.
My heartfelt appreciation.

Debra, If you and Bob need help with gardening I could be there this weekend.
I’m sure I could trim
High Biscuits, if you just show me what they are.
